Muskogee- Joe E. Russell, longtime Muskogee resident, died Friday January 5, 2018 in Muskogee. He was 84 years of age.
Joe was born September 9, 1933 in Greenwood, AR and grew up in McAlester, OK. He attended school in McAlester and graduated from McAlester High School in 1951. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1951 to 1955.
Joe worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone from 1956 to 1989 retiring after 33 years. On September 8, 1957 he was married to Virginia Copeland in McAlester and made their home in Muskogee. He was a longtime member of the Trinity United Methodist Church. He enjoyed Crappie fishing, bowling and reading.
Surviving are his wife Virginia of the home; two children, Steven Russell of Muskogee and Lori Butler and husband Jimmy of Wagoner; three grandchildren, Justin Cantrell of Fort Gibson, Blake Cantrell of Tahlequah and Kyndle Cantrell of Wagoner; one sister, Mary Lynn Holt of Tulsa, one brother in law Doyle Copeland of Tulsa; and several nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and in laws and one sister Alice Sandschaper.
Funeral services will be held at 9 am Wednesday January 10, 2018 at the Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home chapel in Muskogee. Interment to follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery under the care of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home.
