Jerry's Story

Jerry Lynn Shelton, 69, of Muskogee was born March 14, 1948 in Shawnee, OK to Darrell and Vivian (Tacker) Shelton and peacefully passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.
Jerry grew up in Midwest City where he received his formal education, and continued his studies at Central State University graduating with a bachelor's degree. Jerry enlisted with the United States Army on September 21, 1967 where he served in Vietnam with the 2nd/16th Ranger Battalion 1st Infantry Division receiving commendations of National Defense Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Vietnam Service Medal w/ Bronze Service Stars and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharged on March 31, 1975. In 1991 he re-enlisted with USAR 486 Civil Affairs Division serving as a liaison.
On March 17, 1973, Jerry married his best friend and the love of his life Miss Kimberle Wade. Jerry worked in the industrial equipment field as a salesman and technical support consultant until his retirement in 2007. Camping, boating, Harley Davidson motorcycles and loving the outdoors were some of his favorite hobbies. He also loved woodworking, stained glass and could fix anything. He and his wife enjoyed traveling the world and saw many countries and sites often involving their family. His family was his greatest passion, especially his grandkids.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, a son, Christopher Jon Shelton; and a sister, Vicki Marie Aycock.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 44 years Kimberle; daughter, Melissa Million and husband Jason of Muskogee; son, Mike Shelton and wife Christina of Blue Ridge, Texas; grandchildren,HM3 Ethan and HM3 April Million(FMF), MRFR Andrew Million, Kian Shelton, Mitchel Gifford, CJ Million, Katie Million, Kobe Shelton and Callie Qualls; great grandson, Gabriel Million; brothers, Donald W Shelton and wife JoAnn, Kenneth Shelton; sister in law, Denise Caram; mother in law, Lois Wade; brother in law and sister in law, David and Barbara Wade, many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
Funeral services for Jerry will be held 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 23, 2017 in the First United Methodist Church in Muskogee with Chaplain Cindy Culver and Pastor Jack Kemper officiating.
Committal prayers and interment will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery with Monday Morning Breakfast Gang of Daryl Buckley, Cecil Crain, Bill Scott, George McAfee, William Jones, Ron Thomas serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearers are Ethan Million, Andrew Million, Kian Shelton, Mitchel Gifford, CJ Million and Kobe Shelton.
