Jay Schale, 63, of Muskogee, Oklahoma left to be with his Lord Tuesday, November 22, 2016. He was born September 17, 1953 in Enid, Oklahoma to Donna and Jay Schale, who raised him in the Christian faith.
Jay was raised in Muskogee and graduated from Muskogee High School, receiving a Bachelor of Art from Northeastern State University in 1983 and a Master of Music Education from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1985, where he taught from 1985-2005. He presented numerous clinics to high school students and coordinated the Instrumental District OSSA Solo and Ensemble contest. He also served as advisor to Kappa Kappa Psi (Epsilon Epsilon Chapter), and music business majors. He was a member of the International Horn Society, Oklahoma Music Educators Association, and honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha. His playing activities included Principal Horn Enid Symphony, Faculty Brass Quintet, and solo and chamber music recitals. Jay had a passion for the Lord, customizing cars, motorcycles (particularly with his best friend, Mike Stroup), and (French) horns, and enjoyed sharing those passions with his friends.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Donna Schale-Featherston and Jay Schale; sister, Susan Schale-Burnett; and brother, Terry Schale.
He is survived by his son; Derrick Schale and his grandson, David Carson Schale; sister, Nancy Schale-Kremers and husband Don; brother, Tim Schale and wife Donnetta, and Kim Schale; stepsisters, Deborah Featherston-Rush, Sheri Featherston-Womack, and Becky Featherston-Tuteral.
A family conducted celebration of his life will be held at 3:00p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2016 at the family home in Muskogee. Friends welcome.
