Janelle Goodwin Lehman, 82, Tulsa, Oklahoma, died Thursday, August 31.
Born April 22, 1935, in Oklahoma City, the only child of Paul and Eleanor (Grimes) Goodwin, she married Lowell Lehman on June 1, 1954. Together they raised 3 children, as well as hundreds of students between them. Janelle obtained her BS in Vocational Home Economics from Oklahoma A&M and her MA in Education from Northeastern State University. Janelle taught in Muskogee, Hulbert, and Tahlequah from 1968 to 1995, in addition to supporting her husband's music programs at NSU.
Janelle's great joys in life, after her children and the love of her life, Lowell, were traveling, playing piano, cooking, sewing, gardening, entertaining, mysteries, period dramas, and genealogy. She was enormously proud of her children's successes, and always enjoyed spending time with them.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Lowell Lehman; sons Len (Jin) Lehman and Paul (Kathy) Lehman; daughter Becky (Larry) Coffman; grandchildren Sam (Samantha) Lehman, Susan (Naomi) Lehman, and Leah Teng; great-grandchildren Evan and Ethan Lehman; and generations of cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Janelle was a kind, caring, and intelligent woman who will be sorely missed by all of those who loved her.
A Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Tahlequah, Oklahoma at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 9. A reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Heifer International or the charity of your choice.
