James's Story

James Eugene Woods was born in Anderson, MO, on May 20, 1917, to Cecil E Woods and Ethel Dobbs Woods. He went to be with his heavenly Father on June 2, 2017, at 100 years of age. He had two younger brothers, Orville Quentin Woods of Fort Worth, TX, and John Robert Woods of Anderson, MO, both deceased.
Jim served in WWII in the U.S. Coast Guard and was stationed in Duluth, Minnesota, on Lake Superior. After the war, he graduated from Oklahoma Baptist University with a B.S. in Religious Education. He served churches in Texas and Louisiana during the 1950s. In 1963, he entered Social Service work with the Department of Human Services in Muskogee, Oklahoma, retiring in 1974. He was active in church work at Meadowbrook Baptist and First Baptist Churches in Muskogee. For the last five years of his life, he was lovingly cared for by the staff of the Country Gardens Assisted Living Facility in Muskogee. Jim was affectionately known as "Papa" to all his grandchildren.
Jim is survived by two daughters, Linda Pizzolato and husband John of Corinth, TX, Carolyn Madding and husband Gene of Muskogee; four grandchildren, Robert Cook and wife Erin, Irving, TX, Kimberly Silva and husband Blake, Denton, TX, Matt Madding and wife Jacalyn, Fort Gibson, OK, and Melanie Jackson; four great-grandchildren Dylan Madding, Aidan Jackson, Sofia Silva, and Olivia Cook.
His first wife of 47 years, Alice Mae Woods, preceded him in death on July 27, 1996. His second wife, Reba Patty Woods, preceded him in death on February 13, 2004.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at Bradley Family Funeral Service in Muskogee from 2-5 p.m. A service celebrating Jim's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 10, in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Muskogee with Dr. Wesley Graver officiating. Interment is scheduled at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Gene Madding, Matt Madding, Dylan Madding, John Pizzolato, Robert Cook, and Blake Silva.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Salvation Army, 700 Independence Street, Muskogee, OK 74403
