Jack Edward Whitten, 75, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Monday, December 5, 2016. He was born August 22, 1941 to Ernest Henry and Pearlie May (Johnson) Whitten.
Jack married the love of his life, Doris Marie (Herring) Whitten, September 3, 1960. Together they celebrated over 56 years of life and happy marriage together; they were blessed with two sons.
Jack worked for Kansas City Power and Light Public Service in McAlester, Oklahoma. He later went on to further his career at Oklahoma Gas and Electric, working as a lineman and retired in 2003.
Jack also known as "Sagebrush", enjoyed being outdoors and spent much of his time taking care of his land and trees. He had a passion of traveling to the Rocky Mountains to camp, hunt, and fish. He was very close to his family and enjoyed spending time with them. He also enjoyed serving in his community and was part of the Buck Horn Fire Department. Jack was of the Baptist faith.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Ernest and Pearlie (Pert) Whitten; brother, George Whitten; along with many of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Jack is survived by his wife, Doris Whitten; sons, Mark Edward Whitten of Muskogee, OK and Brian Lee Whitten of Sherman, TX; grandchildren, Connie Wetzel of Tom Bean, TX, Amanda Whitten of Madrid, Spain, Blake Whitten of Sherman, TX, and Jessica Hernadi of Muskogee, OK; great grandchild, Haley Wetzel of Tom Bean, TX; nieces, Sherry, Carol, and Kacy; special friends, Belvie Martin, Michael House, Harry Condren, and Phil Plunkett.
A graveside service honoring Jack's life will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Juliette Taylor Cemetery near Webbers Falls, OK. Honorary Pallbearers are Mark Whitten, Brian Whitten, Blake Whitten, and Paul Wetzel.
The family would like to invite friends to a luncheon from 11am-1pm, Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Buckhorn Fire Dept.
