Helen Gail Smith


Helen Gail Smith was born on May 29, 1937 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. The daughter of Granville L. and Sarah K. (Moore) Hill. She passed from this life on August 31st, 2019. Helen was 82 years of age.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin and aunt. Helen attended North Eastern State University in Tahlequah and Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia. She also taught at Midciff School in West Virginia.
Helen was married to Junnie C. Smith on October 27, 1961 in Denton, Texas. She worked as a Secretary for Muskogee Christian Church and for American Real Estate, a Factory worker for Whitlock Packaging and she spent the past 12 years working as a counselor for at risk children and teens with the Community Intervention Center for the City and County of Muskogee. Helen also served as a troop leader in the Girl Scouts of America as well as the Boy Scouts of America, she was a member of the Blue Star Mothers, and was very active in the church
Helen's pride and joy were her family. She is survived by one sister Mary Uhl (Ray) of Charleston, W VA; three children Bryan (Christine) of Muskogee, Kymberlee Shamblin (Michael) of Warner, Jeffrey (Karry) of Woodall. 12 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband Junnie, parents, brother John Moore Hill and sister Lucille Paris.
Visitation will be 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM, Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at Foster-Petering Funeral Home. A celebration of Helen's life will be held at 2:00 PM, September 5, 2019 at the York Street Christian Church, Minister Gene Thompson and Rev. Bob Burgess officiating. Her body will be laid to rest at Greenhill Cemetery following the funeral service.
