Glynn's Story

Glynn Garrison, 85, year old Checotah resident, passed away on Saturday, February 18, 2017 in Muskogee, OK. He was born on Tuesday, June 23, 1931 to William Anthony and Ada Marie (Martin) Garrison in Wagoner, OK. Glen graduated from Checotah High School in 1947. He worked for Delta Construction Co from Clarksdale, MS for 3 years as a lineman. He decided to join the Air Force on Thursday, December 28, 1950, after completing basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, TX, he was transferred to Barksdale AFB, Bossier City, LA. He volunteered for cook and bakers school at Fort Knox, KY. After graduation, he was transferred back to Barksdale AFB, Bossier City, Lam while there, he was promoted to Corporal and his unit deployed to Upper Heyford, England where they received training as support for air craft missions. After 6 months, his unit returned to Barksdale AFB, LA where he was promoted to Sargent, then to Staff Sargent. After his first 4 years was up, he decided to reenlist at Altus AFB, Altus, OK. While there, his unit went TDY to Anderson AFB, Guam. After training for 6 months, they returned to Altus, AFB, Altus, OK. All promotions were frozen after the Korean War so he decided to get out of the Air Force and see if he could do better as a civilian. He landed a job at Hopper Machine Works in Bakersfield, CA where he enrolled in college at night. Glynn finished high school early, was a master mechanic and an excellent carpenter. He loved to cook, barbeque, fish and he loved sports. He was saved as a young boy. Glen was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Norma Jean McClure and Lois Hayes. He is lovingly survived by his sons, Gerald Garrison of Muskogee, OK, Robert Garrison his wife Terrie of Hermitage, TN, Greg Garrison of Checotah, OK; his grandchildren, Erin Garrison Penera and her husband Nick of Tulsa, Thrasher Garrison of Owasso, OK; Dean Garrison and his wife Stephanie of Lawrence, KS, Amanda Garrison Pratt of Hermitage, TN, Mike Jones of Tuscaloosa, AL and Austin Garrison. Glynn is also survived by his 7 great grandchildren; his 1 great-great grandchild; his nephews, Ronnie Garrison of Checotah, OK, Donnie Garrison of Nevada City, CA, Johnny Garrison of Tahlequah, OK; brother, Norris Garrison and his wife Wilma of Checotah, OK; sister-in-law, Claudia Lee Adams of Shreveport, LA as well as other extended family and a lifetime of friends.
Viewing will be from 11AM-5PM on Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at Garrett Family Funeral Home. Services celebrating the life of Glynn will be held at 1PM on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at First Baptist Church with Reverend Steve Dennis officiating. Private family burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Thrasher Garrison, Dean Garrison, Mike Jones, Austin Garrison, Bobby Frame, Willie Wiles, Mike Stidham, Greg Stidham and Steve Henderson will serve as Honorary Casket Bearers.
