George's Story

George R. Wilson, 84, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Monday, November 14, 2016. He was born April 26, 1932 to Russell William Wilson and Hazel Ruth (Roe) Wilson in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He attended Porter Elementary and graduated from Muskogee High School.
George proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. After his service with the Air Force, he continued to serve his community by becoming a Firefighter with Muskogee Fire Department, retiring in 1985.
He married the love of his life, Barbara Ellen (Chaney) Wilson, on June 15, 1957. Together they celebrated over 59 years of life and happy marriage together and they were blessed with one daughter.
"Dappy" as his family and friends knew him, loved fishing, field trialing, and hunting. He will always be remembered for his love of the Lord and was a member of Thrive Family Church.
George is preceded in death by his parents, Russell Wilson and Hazel Wilson; brothers, Howard Wilson and Russell Wilson.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Wilson of Muskogee; daughter, Patricia Brewster of Muskogee; granddaughters, Sarah Roark and husband Jamie Roark of Colorado, and Robyn Brewster of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; great-grandson, Kian Roark of Colorado; brothers-in-law, Jack Chaney, Ed Chaney, Ben Chaney; sisters-in-law, Patt Stevenson, Sue Wiedner and Louise Chaney; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service was celebrated in honor of George's life Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at Thrive Family Church. Reverend Ken Ossman and Reverend Ed Chaney officiated the service. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Muskogee Fire Department.
