Upon graduating, he joined the US Navy and spent 3 and a half years, 18 months of which were on the USS Lexington, doing overseas duty to Guam, Hawaii, Hong Kong, and Okinawa, Japan. On September 17th 1956, he lost his heart to Ollie Victoria (Tillman) Buck, and they were married in McAlester, OK, and spent the next six months in San Diego, CA. This union was blessed with 53 years of marriage and three children, Vicki Lynn, Susan Diane, and Freddy Russell. The rest of his working career was spent in Sales working for such companies as Taystee Bread, Frito Lay, and Git-n-go. In 1970 he began classes at Bacone College, and in 1972, he began working for Safeway and attending classes at Northeastern State University. In 1974, he graduated with one of the first graduating classes from NSU with his BA in Business Administration marketing and management. In 1993, Fred retired from Safeway after 21 years of continual service with the company. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He always found time for his family. He was very active in the Carter Baptist Church, spending decades in service to the church as both Treasurer and Deacon. Freddy served on many committees such as finance, budget and Pastor Search to name a few. He moved to Muskogee in 2011, joining the First Baptist Church where he was an active member of the Life Matters Bible Study Class. He continued his service to the Lord by volunteering with the First Baptist Food Pantry. He was always ready to do a little traveling to see new sights, and enjoyed time in his shop doing woodworking. He adored his family and any time spent with them was wonderful for Freddy. He was a wonderful friend, and you could always be sure he was there if you needed him. He was kind, thoughtful and considerate. A Christian by faith, the Lord called this good and faithful servant home from his labors on February 8th, 2018 in Tulsa, OK. He was 80 years old. He will be greatly missed.
