Eugenia's Story

Eugenia Davie Thompson, 96, of Muskogee, died Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at Ft. Gibson Nursing Home. She was born February 11, 1921 in Wirt, Oklahoma to Robert and Dessie Anderson Davie. In 1948 she married Windle Thompson of Searcy, Arkansas in Wilson, Oklahoma.
Eugenia Thompson graduated from Healdton High School, Healdton, Oklahoma. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from East Central State University, Ada, Oklahoma; a Master of Religious Education, Southwestern Baptist Seminary, Fort Worth, Texas; and a Master of Education, Central State University, Edmond, Oklahoma.
Mrs. Thompson taught two years in public schools before going to the Northeastern State University English department where she taught English and Humanities from 1959 to 1984. Upon her retirement she was honored with the title Professor Emerita. While at Northeastern, she served as Social Chairman for the Arts and Letters Division, sponsor of the Baptist Student Union, and Chairman of the American Association of University Women's Senior Tea.
She loved to travel with her husband, Dr. Windle Thompson, a pharmacist in Muskogee. While she taught at Northeastern they traveled to Greece, Italy, France, England, Belgium, Holland, Mexico, Israel, and Hawaii.
A longtime member of the First Baptist Church, Muskogee, she participated in several activities but particularity enjoyed being a member of the Keenagers.
She was preceded in death by her husband Windle Hubert Thompson. Survivors are two daughters, Winda Dumond and husband Dr. Franklin R. Dumond of Mt. Vernon, Indiana, and Cheryl Johnson and husband Gary Johnson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; two adopted sons, David and Daniel Thompson of Salmon, Idaho; four grandsons, Joseph Dumond, Jeffrey Dumond, Justin Dumond, and Timon Johnson; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Johnson Smith, and Kalynn Johnson Myers; five great grandchildren, Caleb Myers, Elizabeth Johnson, Hailey Johnson , William Dumond, Henry Dumond and soon-to-be born Colton Smith; five nephews, Mark Davie, William Davie, Robert W. Davie, Robert Baker, and Preston Baker.
Viewing will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. today at Foster-Petering Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 8, 2017 at Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel with Rev. Rex Wilkinson officiating.
