Mrs. Ethel May Smith, 65 of Porum, passed away Monday, January 16, 2017 at her home. She was born on July 17, 1951 in Hoyt, Oklahoma to Charles and Freda (Wren) Morris. She grew up in the Hoyt and Whitefield area and graduated from Stigler High School. She married James Lee Smith on October 6, 1972 at Sand Ridge. She was a Registered Nurse for fourty-three years and had just retired January 1, 2017.
Ethel was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, nurse, aunt, neighbor, and friend. She was a caring, giving person who was always willing to share her time, talents, and expertise with others. Besides loving her family with every fiber of her being, Ethel thoroughly enjoyed gardening, flowers, making and decorating cakes for special occasions, scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting and sewing. Her grandchildren were the light of her life.
Ethel is survived by her husband, James Lee Smith of the home; three sons, Rodney Smith and wife Shawna, Tim Smith and wife Amy, Jason Smith and wife Mandy; ten grandchildren, Casey, Mayleigh, Kylie, Jaelyn, Ethan, Jentry and Caiden Smith, Colt, Hunter and Bo Chapman; three sisters, Edna Biggs and husband Elden, Glenda Few and husband Henry, Betty McGuire and husband Larry; two brothers, Charlie Morris and wife Marie, Gerald Morris and wife Jackie; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and nursing family; special friends, Terry McNeely and Wanda Smith.
Ethel is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Freda Morris; her in-laws, James A. (Dutch) and Annie Smith; Nancy Ridgeway.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 20, 2017 at the Whitefield Baptist Church with Pastor Danny Denny officating. Eulogist: Pastor Daniel Henson. Pallbearers include Bryan Few, Chris Few, Eric Biggs, Randy Smith, Harold Burnett, Trampas Tripp. Honorary Pallbearers include James Morris, Casey Smith, Porum Volunteer Fire Department.
Burial will follow immediately to Hoyt Cemetery under the direction of King & Shearwood Funeral Home of Stigler.
