Connie Eugene Meeks, 97, formerly of Fort Gibson, OK, was born June 6, 1920 at Webbers Falls, OK, the son of Charles and Mary Ann (Lowery) Meeks and died Monday, July 24, 2017 at Muskogee.
During World War II, C.E. proudly served his country in the Army's 42nd Rainbow Division. During his younger years, he moved to California where he worked as a foreman at cotton gins. Upon his return to Oklahoma he became a fulltime farmer. He had a love for working with the land and was the first to bring sweet corn and cantaloupe to this area. Being of Native American descent, he was proud of his Cherokee heritage. He loved farming, playing cards, and reading Westerns.
Survivors include son, Eugene Meeks of Okay; daughter, Debra Kerr of Okay; five grandchildren, Stephanie Meeks, Tina Martin and husband Jason, Jeanne Meeks, Kerry Kitterman and husband Shan, and Jonthan Kerr; along with nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers and sisters.
Services for C. E. will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 31, 2017 at Tom Girty Cemetery in Webbers Falls. Grandchildren will serve as Honorary Pallbearers. Burial will be under the direction of Lescher-Millsap Funeral Home of Muskogee.
