Catherine's Story

Text size

Catherine Gotwals Bradley Kahn died peacefully Monday evening, March 13, 2017, in the company of her family. She is in the loving hands of Jesus Christ our Lord, and is now with her two daughters, Cathy Bradley Garrett and Carol Bradley Hughes, who preceded her in death.
Catherine was born in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Charles Place Gotwals and Anna Gotwals on September 5, 1923, the youngest of four children. The Gotwals family was a very close, loving family and Catherine had a happy childhood, living in the same house until adulthood.
Catherine graduated from Muskogee Central High School and then graduated from OU with a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. While at OU, she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
After university, Catherine married Archie Glen Bradley. They remained married until Archie's death in 1984. Catherine worked for the State of Oklahoma Department of Human Services as a social case worker for twenty years and left upon her retirement.
Catherine had five children, Catherine Bradley Garrett, Stephen Bradley, Charles G. Bradley, Carol Bradley Hughes, and James 'Rusty' Bradley. From these children came nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
Catherine was a devout Episcopalian and attended Grace Episcopal Church in Muskogee for many years. She loved animals and was a generous contributor to the ASPCA. She also dearly loved her time and membership at the Wauhillau Outing Club, where her family has owned summer cabins for three generations. She and Archie bought their own cabin in the 80s, which was a source of endless pleasure for her own family. Catherine was an excellent bridge player and gin rummy player, both of which she enjoyed immensely and played for money, and she won often. She had an irrepressible zest for life, limitless generosity, indomitable courage, and a wicked sense of humor. Catherine was devoted to her family, had many, many friends, all of whom loved her dearly and will miss her deeply.
Catherine was preceded in death by her first husband and beloved father of her children, Archie Glen Bradley; her second husband and kindly, good man, Charles Kahn; and by her two daughters Cathy and Carol. She is survived by sons, Stephen, Charles, and Rusty, daughters-in-law Patricia, Pam, and Shelli; and by their children and grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to Grace Episcopal Church, Muskogee, OK, to the ASPCA, or to a charity of your choice. Also, you could adopt a dog or cat in her honor. She would have liked that.
Her memorial service will be on March 25, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at Grace Episcopal Church, Muskogee.
The family has entrusted Bradley Family Funeral Service with the arrangements. Friends may send condolences to the family at www.bradleyfuneralservice.com
