Calvin's Story

Calvin Coolidge McNiel, 82, of Muskogee, was born February 21, 1934 in Tahlequah, OK to Arthur Wyatt and Mamie Esther (Gourd) McNiel. He entered Heaven's Gates on Friday, November 4, 2016 in Muskogee, OK.
Calvin proudly served his country with the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and later reenlisted in the United States Air Force. Calvin met and later married the love of his life Elda June Morrell in Tulsa, OK. A marriage that lasted over 60 years.
Calvin retired from the Army Corp of Engineers as a Ranger in 1976. He was a faithful member of Trinity Freewill Baptist Church in Muskogee for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Those left to cherish Calvin's memory are his wife Elda of the home; three sons, Gene McNiel of Jasper TX, Mike McNiel of Muskogee, OK and Sheldon McNiel of Springfield, MO; sister, Lillie Orman of Muskogee; 13 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Monday, November 7, 2016 at Clifford D Garrett Family Funeral Home in Fort Gibson, OK with family receiving friends 5PM-7PM.
A service celebrating Calvin's life will be at noon, Tuesday, November 8, 2016, in the Trinity Freewill Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK with Rev Earl Cope officiating.
Committal prayers and interment will follow in the Fort Gibson National Cemetery, in Fort Gibson, OK.
