Bertha's Story

Text size

A beautiful, baby girl was born in Muskogee on January 4, 1937 from the loving union of Haywood and Valee Booker. She was named Bertha Booker. Bertha grew up and attended Muskogee Public Schools, graduating from the Historic Manual Training High School with the Class of 1957. She furthered her education by attending nursing school at Bacone College.
Bertha originally began working at the Muskogee General Hospital as a nurse aid on the surgical floor in 1960. She then became licensed as an L.P.N. in 1980 and retired after 55 years of faithful service to the Muskogee Community.
She met Lemond Horn and after falling in love, they were united in Holy matrimony. Together, they raised their family in Muskogee.
Bertha was a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church before the Church merged with First Lutheran Church. She enjoyed fishing, socializing and the annual summer vacation.
After 79 years with us, Bertha Horn transitioned from Earth to Glory on Saturday morning, August 19, 2017. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lemond Horn and her sons, Keith Simmons and Michael Horn.
Those she leaves to cherish her memory; her sons, Tony Horn, Sr. [Beulah Joyce], Muskogee, Oklahoma and Shawn Horn [Jewell], Atlanta, Georgia; her step-daughter, Karen Horn Nelson, St. Paul, Minnesota; 5 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; her niece, Debra Simmons Hitchye; and a host of other relatives and friends.
