Alice's Story

Alice Allene Williams, 95 year old Muskogee resident, passed away on Friday, July 7, 2017. She was born in Bryan County near Durant on Thursday, December 22, 1921 to Gideon and Alice (Wheeler) Dunn. Allene met her future husband, Dale Williams, in third grade at Onapa Grade School. The couple married November 16, 1940. They rented a farm east of Checotah and went to work. The couple later moved into Checotah with their two daughters. Allene attended Beauty College in Tulsa, graduating in 1946 and later opened a beauty shop in Checotah for four years until 1950 when they moved to Texas where she continued working as a hairdresser part-time. In 1959 they moved back to Checotah and Allene went back to work full time as a hairdresser. Later she went to work for the McIntosh County Health Department where she was a clerk until she retired. Allene was baptized at First Baptist Church of Checotah and was a member of Elm Grove Baptist Church for almost 50 years. She was a founding member of the Checotah area Artist Guild where she won many award ribbons. Allene enjoyed quilting, reading, cooking and traveling. Later in life they traveled abroad to places such as Europe, Great Britain and Ireland, the Mediterranean, the Holy Land and Thailand. She was lovingly cared for by the staff of Country Gardens and will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. Allene was preceded in death by her parents; husband Dale; their infant daughter, Noreen; a grandson, Benton Womack; her sister, Nova Ella Hogard. She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Marscella Petty and husband Sam of Checotah and Brenda Williams and husband Gary Miller of Bernalillo, NM; her grandchildren Rusty Petty and his wife Barbara of Checotah, Janet Cook and husband Tony of Fulshear, TX and Bethany Womack of Lawton, OK. She is also survived by her great grandchildren, Amanda Ring and her husband Brian, Zachary Todd and his wife Laurie, Shelby Petty, Andrew and Gracie Cook; her great-great grandchildren, Brooks Todd and Emeryson Kate Todd; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and a lifetime of friends. As you remember the life of Allene, memorials are to be made in her memory to Elm Grove Baptist Church RR 1 Box 1870, Council Hill, OK, 74428. Viewing for Allene will be from 1PM to 7PM Monday, July 10, 2017 with her family greeting friends from 5PM to 7PM at Garrett Family Funeral Home. A private family burial will be held in Greenlawn Cemetery before the services celebrating the life of Allene.
